The Association of Omentin Gene Expression in Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissues with Plasma Fatty Acids Profile and Dietary Fatty Acids

چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Omentin, an adipokine, with anti-inflammatory effects reduces insulin resistance, and can hence, play an important role in prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The present study aimed to investigate the association of plasma and dietary fatty acids with gene expression of omentin in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues. Materials and Methods: Visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues and fasting blood samples were obtained from 50 obese and 47 non-obese participants, who had undergone elective abdominal surgery. Dietary intakes were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. Relative gene expression of omentin in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues was measured by Real-Time PCR and plasma fatty acids were measured using gas chromatography. Results: Omentin gene expression in visceral adipose tissue was higher in non-obese participants, compared to obese ones; however, no difference was found in subcutaneous adipose tissue. A significant direct association was observed between omentin gene expression in visceral adipose tissue with dietary monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) (P=0.011, β=0.394) in obese subjects and the plasma omega 6: omega 3 ratio (P=0.029, β=0.385) in non-obese subjects after adjustment for confounders. No association was observed between omentin gene expression in subcutaneous adipose tissue and plasma and dietary fatty acids. Conclusion: Dietary intakes of MUFA in obese participants and plasma omega 6: omega 3 ratio in non-obese ones were directly associated with omentin gene expression in visceral adipose tissue. Therefore, higher omentin gene expression by increasing dietary MUFA may be related to improvement of obesity and its associated comorbidities.

Association of some dietary intakes, anthropometric measurements and insulin resistance with the relative P53 gene expression in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue in obese, and non-obese subjects
Background and Objectives: The P53 is one of the genes involved in weight management. This study investigated associations of dietary intakes, anthropometric measurements and insulin resistance with relative P53 gene expressions. Materials & Methods: Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) were collected from 151 individuals, aging nearly 40 years, who underwent el...

This study investigated the effects of dietary linolenic acid (C18:3n-3) v. linoleic acid (C18:2n-6) on fatty acid composition and protein expression of key lipogenic enzymes, acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) and delta 6 desaturase (Δ6d) in longissimus muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue of bulls. Supplementation of the diet with C18:3n-3 was accompanied by an incr...
متن کاملAssociation between Plasma Nonesterified Fatty Acids Species and Adipose Tissue Fatty Acid Composition
Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue (AT) is an established long-term biomarker for fatty acid (FA) intake and status, but AT samples are not easily available. Nonesterified FA composition in plasma (pNEFA) may be a good indicator of AT FA composition, because pNEFA are mainly generated by AT lipolysis. We investigated the correlation of 42 pNEFA and subcutaneous as well as visceral AT FA i...

15 صفحه اولPlasma phospholipid fatty acids, dietary fatty acids and prostate cancer risk.
Animal and experimental studies have demonstrated that long-chain n-3 fatty acids inhibit the development of prostate cancer, whereas n-6 fatty acids might promote it. We performed a case-cohort analysis within the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study using a random sample of 1,717 men and 464 prostate cancer cases to investigate associations between fatty acids assessed in plasma phospholipids...
متن کاملMicrodetermination of long-chain fatty acids in plasma and tissues.
The ternary mixture, heptane-isopropyl alcohol-water, provides a convenient two-phase system for extraction of longchain fatty acids (1). When the solvent components are taken in suitable proportions, the phases separate rapidly without centrifugation. The long-chain fatty acids distribute predominantly into the upper, nonpolar phnsc, whereas the more polar acids remain below. This method of ex...
